Arunachal Pradesh is one of India’s most rewarding destinations for travellers who want more than a conventional hill-station holiday. From the monasteries and high-altitude lakes of Tawang to the Apatani cultural landscape of Ziro, the remote valleys of Mechuka and Anini, the Siang Valley and the forests of Namdapha, Arunachal offers remarkably different travel experiences within one state.
At SetMyTrip, we design Arunachal Pradesh Tour Packages around the route, season, available road conditions, accommodation level and the type of experience you want. A short Tawang holiday can be planned very differently from a 14–16 day Arunachal exploration covering Tawang, Ziro, Mechuka and Pasighat. Our packages can also be customized for families, couples, small groups, photographers, senior travellers and international visitors.
Arunachal Pradesh is not a destination where one fixed itinerary suits every traveller. The state is geographically large, road journeys can be long, and several attractions require additional driving or local arrangements. Therefore, SetMyTrip plans Arunachal holidays according to the circuit you want to explore rather than simply adding destinations to a list.
Our Arunachal packages currently include shorter Tawang-focused holidays as well as longer multi-region journeys covering Tawang, Ziro, Mechuka, Dibang Valley, Pasighat and other parts of the state. The available packages include private-vehicle sightseeing and, depending on the itinerary, accommodation, meals and permit assistance. 1
Arunachal Pradesh Tour Package Cost
The cost of an Arunachal Pradesh holiday depends heavily on the number of travellers, accommodation category, vehicle type, number of nights and how remote the itinerary becomes. A two-person private trip normally costs considerably more per person than the same itinerary for four or six travellers because the vehicle and driver costs are shared among fewer people.

Choose Your Arunachal Pradesh Circuit
One of the biggest advantages of planning Arunachal Pradesh as a circuit-based holiday is that you can match the route with your interests. The western circuit around Tawang is ideal for first-time visitors, while Ziro, Mechuka, Anini, Siang, Namdapha and Anjaw are better suited to travellers who have more time and want to explore beyond the conventional route.
SetMyTrip’s Arunachal destination guide identifies multiple practical circuits across the state, including Tawang, Ziro, Roing–Anini, Along–Mechuka, Chumi Gyatse–Mago, Bomdila–Seppa, Pasighat–Tuting–Gelling, Namdapha, Itanagar–Bhalukpong, Tirap, Tezu–Hayuliang, Palin–Nyapin–Sangram–Koloriang and Anjaw. 4
Tawang Circuit – The Best Introduction to Arunachal Pradesh
Tawang is the most popular starting point for a first Arunachal Pradesh holiday. The journey itself is part of the experience, with changing Himalayan landscapes, high-altitude passes, monasteries, lakes and remote mountain settlements.
Major experiences include Tawang Monastery, Sela Pass and Sela Lake, Nuranang Waterfall, Jaswant Garh, Bum La, P.T. Tso and local Monpa cultural attractions. Our dedicated Tawang Places to Visit and Things to Do guide provides a more detailed sightseeing reference. 5
For most first-time travellers, 7–9 days is a practical duration for a Tawang-focused holiday when travelling from Guwahati or Tezpur. Adding Kaziranga, Chumi Gyatse, Sangti Valley or additional nights in Dirang increases the required duration.
Dirang and Sangti Valley
Dirang is more than an overnight stop between Bomdila and Tawang. It is an important part of the western Arunachal landscape, with valleys, rivers, monasteries, villages and opportunities for slower travel.
Sangti Valley, near Dirang, is particularly suitable for travellers who prefer scenic landscapes and a quieter stay rather than a packed sightseeing schedule. SetMyTrip has also documented Dirang and Sangti Valley as a slow-travel destination. Read our Dirang and Sangti Valley travel guide.
For travellers looking for something beyond the conventional Tawang itinerary, a night in Sangti or additional time around Dirang can make the journey considerably more relaxed.
Ziro Valley Circuit
Typical route: Itanagar → Ziro → Hapoli → Talle Valley.
Ziro is one of Arunachal Pradesh’s most distinctive cultural destinations. The valley is closely associated with the Apatani community, traditional villages, agricultural landscapes and a slower style of travel.
The wider Ziro circuit can include Apatani villages, Ziro Valley, Talle Wildlife Sanctuary, Meghna Cave Temple and seasonal cultural experiences such as the Dree Festival. 6
Ziro is particularly attractive to travellers interested in tribal culture, photography, village life, landscapes and responsible cultural tourism. It can be combined with Tawang in a longer Arunachal exploration rather than squeezed into a short holiday.
Mechuka Valley
Mechuka is one of Arunachal Pradesh’s most visually striking remote valleys and is better suited to travellers willing to spend additional time on the road.
The typical western Arunachal route connects Pasighat → Along/Aalo → Mechuka. The region offers mountain landscapes, the Siyom River, traditional settlements, bridges and monasteries. 7
SetMyTrip’s longer Arunachal Explore Package with Tawang, Ziro and Mechuka combines these very different landscapes into a single journey and currently starts from ₹33,000 per person, subject to itinerary and travel-date conditions. 8
The Roing–Anini circuit is appropriate for travellers looking for a more remote Himalayan experience. The route enters the Mishmi landscape and offers a very different character from Tawang.
Key experiences include Mayudia Pass, Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary, Dibang River landscapes and Idu Mishmi culture. 9
SetMyTrip currently offers a 6 Days / 5 Nights Dibang Valley Tour Package with Roing & Anini starting from ₹12,500 per person. 10
Travellers who have already experienced the standard Tawang circuit can go further into the high-altitude landscape around Chumi Gyatse, Mago and Thingbu.
The Chumi Gyatse–Mago route is substantially more adventurous than ordinary Tawang sightseeing. Road conditions, weather, permissions and local operational requirements need to be considered before confirming the journey.
SetMyTrip’s Arunachal circuit guide identifies the route as Tawang → Chumi Gyatse → Chuna Valley → Mago, with Chumi Gyatse’s sacred waterfalls and the remote villages of Mago and Thingbu as major attractions. 11
SetMyTrip also offers a dedicated Mago and Chumi Gyatse Waterfalls Package and longer Tawang–Chumi Gyatse itineraries. The package page lists a 4-day/3-night Mago and Chumi Gyatse journey from ₹11,833, subject to the selected arrangement. 12
Our detailed Mago travel guide explains the high-altitude character and access routes to this remote region.
The Siang circuit is ideal for travellers interested in rivers, tribal culture, remote villages and adventure travel. Experiences can include Siang River landscapes, rafting, hanging bridges, Pangin, Daying Ering, Adi culture, Mouling National Park and Gelling. 13
This is not normally a short add-on to a conventional Tawang trip. It deserves its own itinerary or inclusion in a longer Arunachal exploration.
Namdapha National Park
Typical route: Tinsukia → Miao → Namdapha National Park → Vijaynagar.
Namdapha belongs to a completely different ecological zone of Arunachal Pradesh. The circuit combines forest landscapes, wildlife habitat and remote communities.
SetMyTrip’s Arunachal circuit guide identifies Namdapha National Park, Miao, the Miao Museum and Buddhist Monastery, Lisu and Chakma communities and the remote Vijaynagar region among the principal attractions. 14
Because this is a remote eastern Arunachal circuit, travellers should allow additional time and avoid planning it as a rushed extension of a western Arunachal holiday.
Anjaw – Walong, Kibithoo, Dong and Kaho
Anjaw offers one of the most remote travel experiences in Arunachal Pradesh. The wider circuit can include Tezu, Hayuliang, Hawai, Walong, Kibithoo, Dong and Kaho.
The region is particularly relevant for travellers interested in frontier landscapes, Himalayan history, remote villages and dramatic mountain scenery. The SetMyTrip Arunachal guide identifies Kaho, Kibithoo, Dong, Namti Maidan, Tilam hot spring, Helmet Top, Walong and Hawai among the circuit’s major points of interest. 15
Because of the remoteness and operational requirements, this circuit should be planned individually rather than simply added to a standard Tawang package.

Sample 8 Nights 9 Days Tawang Arunachal Itinerary
Day 1: Guwahati – Bhalukpong

Day 2: Bhalukpong – Bomdila – Dirang
Drive through the Eastern Himalayan foothills towards Bomdila and continue to Dirang. Depending on the timing and road conditions, sightseeing can include local viewpoints, monasteries and valley landscapes.
Day 3: Dirang – Tawang
Proceed towards Tawang through the high mountains. Depending on the season and operational conditions, the journey may include Sela Pass and Sela Lake or the Sela Tunnel corridor, followed by the approach to Tawang.
Day 4: Tawang Local Sightseeing
Explore Tawang Monastery and selected local attractions. Additional sightseeing can be planned according to weather, road conditions and the interests of the travellers.
Day 5: Bum La and High-Altitude Lakes
Take the permitted excursion towards the high-altitude border region. Bum La and selected lakes such as P.T. Tso may be included subject to permission, weather and road conditions.
Day 6: Tawang – Damteng / Tsechu
For an adventure-focused itinerary, travel towards the Damteng/Tsechu area for the next stage of the Chumi Gyatse experience.
Day 7: Chumi Gyatse / Mago Region
Explore the high-altitude landscape and return or stay according to the selected package arrangement.
Day 8: Return towards Bomdila / Bhalukpong
Begin the return journey through the mountain corridor.
Day 9: Bhalukpong – Guwahati
Continue towards Guwahati for airport or railway-station drop.
The exact sequence should be customized because mountain-road conditions can make a nominal driving time unreliable. SetMyTrip’s current 9-day package combines Tawang, Damteng/Tsechu, Dirang, Bhalukpong, Bomdila, Guwahati and Kaziranga. 17
Sample Long Arunachal Pradesh Exploration
For travellers who want to experience several distinct regions rather than only Tawang, a longer itinerary can combine:
Bhalukpong
Dirang
Tawang
Bomdila
Itanagar
Ziro
Daporijo
Along/Aalo
Mechuka
Pasighat
Dibrugarh
This is broadly the structure of SetMyTrip’s current Arunachal Explore Package with Tawang, Ziro and Mechuka. The published itinerary runs for 15 nights/16 days and includes breakfast, dinner and sightseeing by private vehicle. 18

Transportation in Arunachal Pradesh
Private road transport is the most practical way to explore Arunachal Pradesh, particularly when travelling beyond the main towns.
SetMyTrip packages use private vehicles for sightseeing and transfers, with the vehicle category selected according to group size and route. Our current Arunachal package information specifically highlights journeys through winding mountain roads and high-altitude areas such as Bum La and the Mago–Chuna region. 19
For remote routes, the vehicle requirement can be different from a normal plains tour. Certain high-altitude or rough-road excursions may require a suitable 4×4 vehicle and local operational coordination.
Arunachal Pradesh Permit: ILP and PAP
Permit requirements are an important part of planning an Arunachal Pradesh holiday.
Indian citizens: Visitors from outside Arunachal Pradesh generally require an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter the state.
Foreign nationals: Foreign visitors are subject to separate permit and travel requirements, including the Protected Area Permit (PAP) framework applicable to Arunachal Pradesh. Travel restrictions and permitted areas can vary, so foreign travellers should arrange the required documentation before beginning the journey.
SetMyTrip provides assistance with Arunachal Pradesh permit arrangements as part of eligible tour packages. Our Arunachal Pradesh ILP and PAP guide explains the permit process in greater detail. 20
Arunachal Pradesh for International Travellers
International visitors should plan Arunachal Pradesh differently from a conventional Indian hill-station holiday. The state has sensitive border areas, restricted regions and long road journeys, so documentation and route planning should be completed before arrival.
For foreign travellers, we recommend allowing additional flexibility for road journeys and avoiding overly aggressive day-by-day schedules. Accommodation in remote areas can also be simpler than in major Indian tourist destinations.
Travellers should carry their passport and visa documents, follow permit conditions, respect local customs and avoid photographing restricted military installations or sensitive border locations unless explicitly permitted.

Best Time to Visit Arunachal Pradesh
The best travel period depends on the region you want to visit.
March to May
Spring is attractive for Tawang, Dirang, Ziro and several lower and mid-altitude regions. Landscapes become greener and travel conditions are generally more favourable than during the peak monsoon.
June to September
Monsoon can bring heavy rain, landslides and road disruptions in parts of Arunachal Pradesh. Travellers should maintain flexibility, particularly on long mountain routes.
October to November
Autumn is one of the most attractive periods for many Arunachal circuits, with clearer mountain views and comfortable daytime conditions in several regions.
December to February
Winter is particularly attractive for travellers interested in snow. Tawang, Mago, Mechuka and Anini can experience significant winter conditions, but snowfall can also affect roads and sightseeing plans. SetMyTrip has documented winter road and snowfall challenges around Tawang, so travellers should not treat snow travel as completely predictable. 21
Arunachal Pradesh in Winter
Winter travel requires a different approach. Snowfall can transform Tawang and other high-altitude destinations, but it can also slow down road journeys or temporarily restrict access.
The recently developed Sela Tunnel has improved the reliability of the Tezpur–Tawang road corridor by providing an alternative to the exposed Sela Pass section, particularly during difficult winter conditions. The Sela Pass itself remains an important sightseeing location when accessible. 22
Why Choose SetMyTrip for Arunachal Pradesh?
Arunachal Pradesh requires more route planning than many conventional Indian holiday destinations. A good package therefore needs to consider more than hotel bookings.
Circuit-based planning: We plan trips around practical Arunachal routes rather than simply adding destinations to a checklist.
Private road transport: Long mountain journeys are planned around the appropriate vehicle and group size.
Remote-destination planning: Destinations such as Anini, Mechuka, Mago and eastern Arunachal require more detailed logistics than standard Tawang tours.
Permit assistance: Applicable ILP/PAP requirements are considered while preparing the itinerary.
Flexible accommodation: Travellers can choose from economy, deluxe, premium and higher accommodation categories depending on the destination.
Customized itineraries: Families, couples, photographers, adventure travellers and international visitors can request different route structures.
SetMyTrip’s current Arunachal packages demonstrate this range, from shorter Tawang and Dibang Valley journeys to a 15-night exploration covering Tawang, Ziro, Mechuka, Aalo, Pasighat and Dibrugarh. 23
Explore Places to Visit in Arunachal Pradesh
Before selecting a package, explore the detailed destination information on SetMyTrip:
Guwahati is one of the most practical starting points for western Arunachal Pradesh. From Guwahati, travellers can proceed towards Tezpur and Bhalukpong before entering the mountain districts.
This makes Guwahati particularly convenient for itineraries covering Bhalukpong, Bomdila, Dirang and Tawang. SetMyTrip also offers combined Assam–Meghalaya–Arunachal itineraries for travellers who want to combine the Eastern Himalayas with Assam and Meghalaya. 24
Arunachal Pradesh Tour Packages from Dibrugarh
Dibrugarh becomes particularly useful for eastern and central Arunachal routes. It can be used for itineraries involving Pasighat, Roing, Anini, Mechuka and other eastern Arunachal destinations, depending on the route selected.
For travellers visiting Anini or the Dibang Valley, a route through Tinsukia and Roing is generally more logical than trying to combine the region with a short western Arunachal itinerary.
Book a Customized Arunachal Pradesh Tour Package
There is no single “best” Arunachal Pradesh itinerary for everyone. A couple interested in monasteries and snow may prefer Tawang, a photographer may want Ziro and Mechuka, an adventure traveller may prefer Chumi Gyatse and Mago, while a repeat visitor may want Anini, Siang Valley, Namdapha or Anjaw.
Tell SetMyTrip your preferred travel dates, number of travellers, starting point, accommodation category and the places you want to visit. We can then build the route around realistic driving distances, available accommodation, permits and the season.
