Winter Revival in Kashmir: Fresh Snowfall Predicted till February, 2 Delights Tourists

Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir – The picturesque landscapes of Kashmir are experiencing a rejuvenating winter revival as fresh snowfall blankets the renowned snow resorts like Gulmarg- Pahalgam and Sonamarg, bringing joy to the tourists and painting the landscape of Kashmir’s Himalaya in a pristine white. After enduring a prolonged dry-spell that had cast a somber tone over the valley, the recent change in weather is welcomed as a promising sign of winter’s return.

The renewed winter charm is attributed to the impact of several Western Disturbances, influencing temperatures and weather patterns across Jammu and Kashmir. Meteorological predictions indicate that the snowfall is expected to continue until February 2, creating a winter wonderland and transforming the region into a mesmerizing destination for residents and tourists alike.

The prolonged dry-spell had taken a toll on Kashmir’s economy, particularly impacting the tourism sector. Hotels faced cancellations and delays in bookings, contributing to an overall sense of disheartenment. However, the recent snowfall has breathed new life into the valley, especially in the famous ski-resort town of Gulmarg.

In response to the changing weather conditions, the Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Gulmarg has issued a winter advisory to ensure the safety and convenience of travelers on the road leading to the renowned ski destination. The advisory emphasizes the use of chains on vehicles traveling between Tangmarg and Gulmarg, allowing only 4×4 vehicles and those equipped with anti-skid chains to navigate the route.

To prevent traffic congestion and ensure smooth travel, the advisory specifies that only light motor vehicles (LMVs) with a seating capacity of not more than 10 seats will be permitted on the Gulmarg-Tangmarg Road. Registered anti-skid chain vendors are authorized to operate in allocated parking spaces, with a set rate of rupees 600/- per pair for the installation of anti-skid chains.
