Kolkata's Airport Ranks Among World's Top Ten for Excellence

India Shines in Global Airport Rankings: Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Bangalore Among Top Performers

In a remarkable display of prowess, India’s aviation sector celebrates a triumphant moment as Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport secures its place among the world’s top ten airports. Accompanying this feat are Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and Bangalore’s Kempegowda International Airport, both standing tall in the ‘large’ airport category based on passenger traffic.

The accolades come from aviation data collection company Serium, which unveiled its rankings based on on-time service in 2023, emphasizing flights arriving and departing within 15 minutes of their scheduled times. Kolkata’s airport proudly claimed the ninth spot in the ‘medium’ category, showcasing its commitment to efficiency and timeliness.

However, the report highlighted a slight dip in on-time performance for Hyderabad’s airport compared to the preceding year. Despite this, it managed to retain a strong standing with 84.42 percent of its flights maintaining their schedule. Bangalore’s airport sustained a commendable 84.08 percent punctuality rate, securing its position among the elite global airports.

Surprisingly, while India’s airports soared high, the country’s airlines failed to crack the top ten in terms of punctuality on a global scale. Notably, IndiGo, a prominent Indian carrier, clinched the eighth spot among the world’s cheapest airlines, with 82.12 percent of its flights operating on time.

Adding to the narrative, the report highlighted an unusual turn of events in the aviation world as Japan, typically synonymous with punctual travel, relinquished its stronghold in 2023. This shift in rankings emphasizes the dynamic nature of global aviation and its benchmarks.

The recognition garnered by these Indian airports stands as a testament to the nation’s evolving aviation infrastructure and operational excellence. With Kolkata leading the charge and Hyderabad and Bangalore reinforcing India’s presence, the country’s aviation sector continues to chart new heights on the global stage.
