The Journey to Jatayu Earth’s Center

The development of Jatayu Earth’s Center is a testament to dedication and vision. It took years of hard work and collaboration to transform a barren piece of land into an ambitious eco-tourism project. Here’s a brief overview of the key milestones in the center’s journey:

1999 – The First Step

Securing clearance for an eco-tourism project of this scale was a challenge due to concerns about the surrounding ecosystem. In 1999, the clearance was granted when respected IAS officer Mr. Devendra Kumar released the rights and orders for the 65 acres of Government-owned land to build the first BOT Tourism project in Kerala.

2004 – Land Handed Over to the Department of Tourism

In 2004, the Kerala Government passed an order to transfer the 65 acres of land from the Revenue Department to the Tourism Department. The efforts of the then MLA for Chadayamangalam, Mr. Prayar Gopalakrishnan, played a significant role in advancing the project.

2005 – The Inauguration

An important milestone in the center’s history was reached when the then Kerala Minister for Tourism, Mr. K. C. Venugopal, officially inaugurated the project. Mr. Chengara Surendran MP and Mr. Prayar Gopalakrishnan MLA were present during the ceremony, marking the official commencement of this ambitious venture.

2006 – Finding the Sculptor

The process of selecting the sculptor for this grand project was a pivotal moment in the center’s journey. Mr. Rajiv Anchal, who had nurtured the idea of a Jatayu sculpture at Chadayamangalam for decades, was chosen by an expert committee after carefully evaluating proposals from various sculptors. This marked the beginning of the planning and creation of the remarkable sculpture that now stands as the center’s main attraction.

2009 – First Phase Work Inaugurated

The inauguration of the first phase of works, which included the sustainable and eco-friendly tourism land, was conducted by Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, the then Minister for Tourism in Kerala. This momentous occasion was graced by the presence of the then Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Mullakkara Ratnakaran, and Mr. Chengara Surendran MP, along with various dignitaries.

2010 – Investor Pitch

A project of the scale and scope of Jatayu Earth’s Center required significant capital to come to fruition. To attract the necessary investments, the Eco-Tourism Department submitted a proposal to the Government of Kerala to call for investors who could support the project financially. The proposal was accepted, and investments began pouring in from various quarters, providing the team with the much-needed support and confidence to proceed.

2011 – Proposal by Rajiv Anchal

Mr. Rajiv Anchal, the Chairman and Managing Director of Guruchandrika Builders and Property Private Limited, submitted a detailed proposal for the completion of the project. This comprehensive plan was accepted by the Government, setting the stage for further development.

2013 – Land Leased for 30 Years Under BOT Scheme

The Government of Kerala sealed the project’s fate by fixing a lease period of 30 years under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) scheme. The operations of the project were handed over to Guruchandrika Builders and Property Private Limited. The surrounding land and all the amenities were also transferred the same year, bringing the dream of Jatayu Earth’s Center one step closer to reality.
